Salary Schedule (Grid)

3.1
The Board shall pay all of the teachers in its employ the salaries and allowances as herein set forth and computed.

3.2 The amount of teacher education of a teacher and the length of teaching experience computed as hereinafter provided shall together determine the annual rate of salary to be paid to each teacher employed by the Board. One month’s salary shall be considered to be 1/12 of the annual salary rate applicable in that month. Tabulated below are the minimum and the maximum salary rates and the experience increments for each year of teacher education.

Effective September 1, 2008, the salary grid is amended to apply a 4.53 per cent increase.

(b) For the years subsequent to 2007/08, salary increases shall be calculated as follows:

The December 2007 annual Alberta Average Weekly Earnings (AAWE*) index shall be compared to the December 2006 annual AAWE* and the percentage increase shall be applied to the salary grid to take effect September 1, 2008.

The December 2008 annual AAWE* index shall be compared to the December 2007 annual AAWE* and the percentage increase shall be applied to the salary grid to take effect September 1, 2009.

The December 2009 annual AAWE* index shall be compared to the December 2008 annual AAWE* and the percentage increase shall be applied to the salary grid to take effect September 1, 2010.

The December 2010 annual AAWE* index shall be compared to the December 2009 annual AAWE* and the percentage increase shall be applied to the salary grid to take effect September 1, 2011.

In no case will a reduction in salary be applied. If the formula produces a negative number, the existing salary grid shall continue for the subsequent year.

(c) The roll-up of the years of experience will continue on the following basis:

2008-09 would be year 6/7
2009-10 would be year 7/8
2010-11 would be year 8/9
2011-12 would be year 9/10

ALBERTA AVERAGE WEEKLY EARNINGS*

The increase for September 1, 2008 will be calculated by comparing the average of earnings for Alberta from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 to the average of earnings for Alberta from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006 and so forth for each subsequent year.

* The average weekly earnings for Alberta (based on the Statistics Canada Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours), unadjusted for seasonal variation, by type of employee for selected industries classified using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), monthly (Dollars) (281-0026).

(d) Other Fixed Dollar Rates of Pay

Effective September 1, 2007 increase all dollar amounts by 3 per cent. That is to say that where these provisions are expressed in dollar amounts and not percentages, the dollar amounts will increase by the applicable percentage. This would include the short term professional development fund presently clause 9.2.1 b.

Effective September 1, 2008 to September 1, 2011 increase all dollar amounts by the same increases on the same dates as the salary grid. This would include the short term professional development fund presently clause 9.2.1 b.

3.4(a) Effective September 1, 2008 a teacher employed on a course basis to provide instruction in credit courses at the Board’s summer school shall be paid at a rate of $4,321 per course inclusive of general holiday and vacation pay.

(b) Effective September 1, 2008 a teacher designated by the Board as the administrator responsible for the summer school shall be paid at a rate of $4,671 inclusive of general holiday and vacation pay.(c) A teacher employed outside of the regular school year on a day-to-day basis to provide tutorial and instructional support will be paid at the rate of pay as a Substitute teacher.
